Woodward Extract Co. produces and bottles small-batch flavor extracts at Brooklyn FoodWorks in the former Pfizer plant in South Williamsburg using a cold extraction process and organic, fair trade ingredients. The company is the brainchild of Amy Nazer, who set out to create her own unique flavors after feeling frustrated by the lack of quality extracts in local stores. Amy, the only child of a chemist father and a dietitian mother, moved to New York in 2005 to study politics and human rights, after which she held several jobs at non-profit and legal organizations. Throughout that time, Amy honed her baking and cocktail making skills by tackling ever more complex projects, from made-to-order holiday cookies for coworkers to wedding cakes and custom cocktail syrups for friends. Never being one to settle for mediocre ingredients, she began developing her own.
